Disability and Access

Watching this video back I see that so much has changed in my life in a very good way. This video still rings true for a lot of people about what they do with their time and how to have a good quality of life with a disability.

However we see that some people still slip through the cracks, we see that there is a consensus that people will be attending either work, volunteering, or attending a day service if you have a disability. But this isn't always the case and it shows the need for services that are skills-based and nonjudgmental to higher functioning people.

As I am finding that I am limiting what I can say both on the channel and the website due to not wanting to get "flack,' due to me speaking out and losing my housing and support. This and this is the core of why I started the blog and restarted Youtube, But it makes me realize how wide-ranging the impact of disability is, and having to manage people's expectations of you is until recently something that I hadn't considered be an issue but it is.

As I should be able to talk about these issues freely without risking support but it shows that if I don't "fall in line" I am the trouble maker and in some situations that is possible and likely but in others it seems unfair and I know that life isn't fair and that we all have our issues but we see that in having this promotes a paternalistic view towards people with disabilities and is gatekeeping by providers.

However I am starting to take calculated risks and speak up and am willing to take some flack due to the NDIS at its core being person-centered, but what that actually means and the reality is very different.
