Magnus and Jace a complicated bond.

( this was first published on annieinwonderland in 2022 and has been edited and expanded on for clarity.)

What is it about how Magnus sees Jace, as information about Magnus comes out, through his relationship with Jace we see a vulnerable side that we hadn't seen in the first season.

We also see that Jace has the confidence to talk to Magnus when he is boarding with him as he doesn't feel welcome at the institute. Jace is the typical Shadowhunter that sees Downworlders as second class, yet Magnus having the relationship with Alec in the second season is a great thing as we see that his parabaiti can sense he is happier it is alluded to that they have gotten physical.

Yet it is funny to me that this clip is Jace taking on the role of a big brother due to the way that bond that they share, they are bonded for life so essentially Jace can feel when Alec is unhappy and Alec can in the same way. The only other connection that seems to be like this is twins that are close to each other, and I hope that people will read my post on this bond, as it is based on a biblical bond and this is the reality that people have as well, it's not physical in the books Alec did try to kiss Jace and Magnus did push him, in the same way, to get him to accept himself, and to see who he really was.

Jace can sense that Alec is happier, yet we can see how Magnus is so tied to the Shadoworld and now navigating the relationship with a Shadowhunter as he has interacted with them in the past but not as deeply as with Alec, over the centuries Mangus would have seen not the Shadoworld change but the "mundane," world as well and this would be hard to keep up with and this is why he as a warlock would demand payment in rare objects, especially from the Shadowhunter's as he has seen them treat people very badly, especially Down worlders that we see that they shadow hunters were even hunting them for sport until the accords were brought into force. This is what Magnus is referring to when Alec in the first season comes to him for help when Isabelle is put on trial for treason and it is essentially a sham trial. He is also at this point to attracted Alec as in the first season Alec was hiding from himself.

At this point when Jace and Magnus are talking we see that Magnus is starting to trust the Shadowhunters as he hasn't in the past. He has been used and abused for most of his life and this is why the Shadowhunters seem to see him as a Lothario type of character. But we see that this was due to abuse from Camelle and the Londen institute in the 1900s where he saved Will from himself due to Tessa being his parent he could go into the hell realms and we see that Tessa's biological parents so Tessa being a warlock, does have a demon parent and this parent is a demon that is Greater DemonBelial and is a prince of hell.

It's interesting that we see that Magnus's life is intertwined with the Shadow hunters but he until he met, Alec really couldn't heal from the relationship's that he was abused in, and it's an interesting thing to me to see that he is not painted as an abuse victim but he is a survivor of Camelle's thoughtlessness over the years when they were saving Will herondale.

Tessa isn't in the TV series due to the fact that there were issues over the rights to some of the books and content but is mentioned that she is in the spiral labyrinth where the warlocks have their headquarters like Idus is the Shadowhunter's spiritual home the spiral labyrinth gives shelter and to young or warlocks that are in trouble and they often work with the shadow hunters but don't agree with them at times.

We see Issy's gig, Alec, about his interest in Magnus as I have talked about before with Alec in the Shadoworld, Alec is hiding from himself and who he is interested in.

We also see that Magnus hasn't seen the reality of the parabatai bond and oath, but does understand it on an academic level. In this episode, we see that Alec has called out to Jace and it seems that he got lost by doing things out of anger the bond can be broken so Magnus accepts that Jace will always be a part of his life.
