So early Childhood intervention under the NDIS is a very complex issue as the child with complex needs to be supported and this is where the early intervention team comes into play so they are specialist's in working with Children with disabilities and their families.
This is something that is started to be discussed a lot more is the role of families and support workers in a family situation. So they would work with Allied health professionals so people as Occupational therapists, a Speech pathologist, and often other multidisciplinary teams. So teams of people can get the child "school," ready as well, whether this is a special school or a mainstream school, however, a mainstream school would be an interesting thing as some children with disabilities don't cope in a mainstream classroom and get left behind. However, this isn't a great thing due to being left behind but a special school will work with the person and their care team.
Often the teachers are specialist teachers as well, So they in a way can work with smaller groups of people and understand the person's needs a lot better. So for children with severe disabilities such as behavioral issues, trauma backgrounds, or other issues, this can be hard as ADHD is recognized in the school system as a disability but not under the NDIS.
So this is where early childhood intervention comes into things as well so we see that people are unable to seek, support as an adult with this condition, but we can seek support for a child with it if it's part of other disabilities as it is very rare for it to occur on its own.
I also believe that it's both under and over-diagnosed, in children due to the way we live life and we expect kids not to be kids. ( they aren't allowed to run and get dirty and this is impacting things) as well we see also that nutrition plays a small role as well as discipline, but we see that it's a very real issue as well.
But early childhood intervention is exactly that, intervention to be able to have a better life as an adult, and support workers would look very different in a childhood situation.
Please be aware that this is all found in the common domain and please consult your NDIS planner.
