Things I like to make my life easier.

So a program that I have been doing for about a year now informally is a program that many schools and gardening Australia is doing called share the waste program, ShareWaste - Give your waste a second chance!

I have found one thing to be essential being a good sealable waste bucket and this is what this is due to the fact that in the formal program, the waste is measured to see what isn’t going into landfill. I started using an old set of containers, and my parents bought me tubs that I now use we have to be aware that they are plastic and that the chemicals might be going into the ground but we see that people are very aware of this and I am putting this on my wish list, it’s a kitchen scraps bucket and we see that it is stainless steel and that it could be great for a variety of other reasons such as a small nappy bucket for modem cloth nappies, or for adult aids, that are reusable, and might need extra attention before they are put through a wash such as soaking, or rinsing off.

The share the waste program has many benefits such as connecting people into community and stopping waste that could be used in other places going into landfill. I also know of several food swap communities and they have kept me going when times have got rough emotionally and during the pandemic kept many people fed as well. We are seeing that the “uncomsuming” movement is now helping lots of people and it seemed to be a very “uncool” thing to do, now thanks to rising costs of living we see that people are going back to having such things as subscriptions to “ toy libraries” or even tool libraries and for women who don’t fit into the mould of formal movements, due to work or caregiving responsibilities, we are seeing the rise of things such as men’s and women’s sheds, as well as tool libraries and event hire places being able to hire out things that you might need for a one off such as cake tins or a formal dress. We are also seeing a resurgence in op shopping to reduce waste and to be environmentally friendly and the rise of sewing due to the rising popularity of people like Bernadette Banner keepingHow to Sew a Simple Strong Seam by Hand: A Step-By-Step Beginner’s Guide - YouTube

“heritage” based skills alive such as hand sewing and being able to care for a variety of fabric’s. We are also seeing the rise of food gardening and even having productive potted plants, becoming a big thing due to the rise of food costs and the food swap groups will often hold seed banks and be able to gather seeds depending on the area and country they are in.

I know that this really hasn’t been disability related but I feel it’s a good idea to let my readers have some insight into my world and what I do outside of writing and YouTube, and I am actually an environmentalist without being “hard core” about it and we see that many people of my generation, being a Millennial, and realizing that we where the first to see first hand effects of climate change and to be aware that what we where doing was unsustainable to our countries.
